Cascio’s Bistro Market

admin Restaurant Spotlight, Shreveport-Bossier

It’s a rare thing to find a new take on the traditional pizza pie. But Rocky Cascio of Bossier City’s Cascio’s Bistro Market got creative in the kitchen one day and started experimenting.

His creation – the Pizzaletta – earned him a Food Network Magazine award: ‘the best pizza in Louisiana,’ which gave Cascio customers just one more reason to visit the restaurant located on Shed Road off Airline.

Here’s what Food Network Magazine wrote: “Owner Rocky Cascio sell a lot of muffaletta sandwiches here, and he always has extra ingredients on hand. One day he started experimenting with them, and the Pizzaletta was born. To make the perfect pizza-sandwich, he takes muffaletta ingredients – Genoa salami, Black Forest ham, olive salad and provolone – then adds a second pizza crust and sprinkles it with mozzarella, provolone and crushed red pepper.”

Italy Comes to Northwest Louisiana

Whether they are serving lunch, dinner or selling you something from their market, everything Cascio’s Bistro Market offers is rooted in its rich Italian history.  Known for their handmade Italian sausage, a four-century family tradition, the Cascio and Modica families came to the United States from Cefalu and Monreale, Italy in 1912. Settling in Northwest Louisiana, they farmed, grew produce and eventually opened Cascio’s Food Market and Cascio’s Market Bistro.

Over the years, the family modified the Italian sausage recipe and in 1945, opened a small grocery story and market where it was sold. Today, Casio’s continues to make and sell the sausage, available in mild, hot, and “lite” varieties.

The Place for Lunch

Cascio’s Bistro Market has built quite a following with their lunch specials featuring

Red Beans and Rice and cornbread muffin on Mondays; Hamburger Steak and twice baked potato on Tuesdays; and chicken spaghetti with a side salad on Wednesdays.

Fridays night specials feature steak filet or ribeye serve with a baked potato.

Other favorite items on the menu include:  Cobb Salad,  Chicken Panini, Meatball PoBoy, Bacon Burger, Lasagna, and Italian Sausage or Pepperoni Pizza
